1966 Ford Mustang 289
The Ford Mustang was the original “Pony car” and was introduced in April 1964 which came in two variants: Convertible and Coupe. Both models were offered in three different trim lines; The basic model would utilise a 170-cid six-cylinder engine. The mid-range model was fitted with the 260-cid engine. The premium model was equipped with the 289-4V engine, however a few months later, Ford Motors would provide the Mustang with a 289 V-8 engine. The 289 variants were offered with the 3 speed or 4 speed manual or the 3 speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. The Mustang would prove to be hugely successful with 22,000 sales on the first day, and 1 million sales in its first two years.
This 289 Mustang was built in the spring of 1966 and is equipped with the 289 4.7L V8 and produces around 200 BHP. Accompanying the engine is the 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. The body is painted in dashing Cherry red, the leather interior follows suit and retains its clean/undamaged looks. This car began its life in California and would remain under the ownership of one family for the next 30 years. The plan was for the son of the family to inherit the Mustang when he was old enough. Surprisingly, the son would announce his desire for a Japanese sports car to replace the 289 Mustang and therefore, he would never drive it. Consequently, this meant the Mustang had to be sold. In 2002, the 289 moved to Kansas City where it was kept until 2005 when it was shipped to England and has been considerably looked after to this day.
Accompanying the Mustang is a healthy history file with records of work completed by various Mustang specialists across the country. Other documentation included is; the original handbook, original Haynes manual, original Ford workshop manual, restoration handbook and a 2016 retail catalogue for all the readily available parts. The original US plates are also included in the sale.
