1970 Jaguar E-type Series II
CKL are pleased to offer this 1970 Jaguar E-type series 2 with a solid history both on the road and the track
The Jaguar E-type series 2 began production in 1968 predominantly for the American market and was offered in FHC, OTS and 2+2 configurations. While still retaining the main looks and styling of the series 1, the series 2 featured some major differences from its predecessor. One of the most noticeable aesthetic changes were the larger indicator clusters on both the front and rear.
Upon inspection under the bonnet you will be drawn to the updated cam-cover styling, moving from smooth polished cam covers to a more industrial style grooved cover. Accompanying the 4.2L straight-six engine are triple SU carburettors which remained standard for UK models, giving the total engine power output of 245hp. The series 2 would also feature some user-friendly factory options such as air conditioning and power steering.
This series 2 E-type has a rather interesting history, not only due to its competition history (uncommon for a series 2) but also for its remarkable list of owners. This series 2 has been owned by Tony Bancroft, Gerry Marshall, and Willie Green, thus increasing its desirability, and raising it above most other series 2 E-types. Tony Bancroft would purchase the car on October 22nd for £2000, while still racing for McLaren. However, when McLaren weren’t available for racing, Bancroft would use this E-type on the track. There are two listed events in which he raced the car: Castle Howard on April 8th, 1973 and Harewood on April 22nd of the same year. Willie Green would then buy the car from legendary racer Gerry Marshall with only 50,000 miles on the clock. Although proven on the track, Willie would only use the series 2 on the road for the near 7 years of ownership. Purchased in 2010 by its current owner, the series 2 has been thoughtfully preserved, yet enjoyed on the twisting country roads of Britain and tours of Europe. Recently receiving coverage in the September 2016 edition of Jaguar World Magazine, the author outlines why this Series 2 (branded the Hill Climb E-type) has become so desirable. This series 2 has given years of enjoyment to its previous owners and will continue to do so for years to come.
Finished in Signal Red with a remarkably clean black leather interior. Now sitting on brand new black wire wheels with AVON tyres, giving this series 2 an original yet sporty look. The original period racing wheels are also included.
