Jaguar C-type Tool Room Reproduction

The Jaguar C-type was the start of Jaguar’s legendary racing program and after winning Le Mans in 1951 and 1953, it proved it’s worth as one of the most sought-after racing automobiles of all time. Starting its life using designs not dis-similar to the highly successful Jaguar XK120, (which was only just starting its steel-bodied production stage) the newly designated XK120C would utilise some radical new designs. The largest change was the chassis, a multi-tubular spaceframe construction with drastic triangulation for weight-saving purposes. The 3.4 XK engine would use two 2in sand-cast SU carburettors, simply known as “C-type carbs” today. It’s safe to say that the Jaguar C-type was bred for competition, with legendary drivers such as Stirling Moss and Tony Fairman taking the reins at the short but successful Le Mans campaign.

The C-type offered is nothing short of a mechanical masterpiece with attention to detail being the primary focus for the build which was completed in 2015. Starting with the chassis, supplied by Andy Thomas of Classic Chassis Services, is dimensionally and structurally correct to the original lightweight tubular spaceframe with all the correct details. The XK engine, from a 1953 Jaguar XK120 was stripped and rebuilt by VSE and has been fitted with a genuine C-type head. The cylinder block and head were flushed examined for wear. The cylinders were bored and new pistons, rings, big and small end bearings were fitted. The crankshaft was ground and balanced with piston assemblies. A high output oil pump was fitted. The C Type cylinder head was fitted with new seats, valve guides and valves. The correct C Type profile camshafts were fitted together with new bearings.

The bodywork and interior were masterfully fabricated by North Devon Metalcraft Ltd and remain true to the original dimensions with the width of 64.5” and a length of 157”. The seats are direct copies of original C-type racing seats. The early shade of British Racing Green was completed by T&T Coachworks to an incredibly high standard.

This toolroom C-type has been kept in storage since 2015 and has been frequently started and maintained.
