CELEBRATING 25 YEARS

CKL’S 25TH ANNIVERSARY GATHERING

A special event was held at CKL HQ in Battle, East Sussex, to celebrate 25 years since CKL was founded by Chris Keith-Lucas in 1999, and the new team of Mark and Tim taking it into the future.

Gathered for the event were a selection of cars that CKL have been custodians of for many years…here are a few highlights:

  • 4 WPD - The Coombs racing E-Type which was recently restored at CKL.

  • E2A - The E-Type prototype which was raced at Le Mans by the Cunningham Team.

  • MWS 303 - Ecurie Ecosse Team car, XKD 561 was recently taken back to bare metal and found to be remarkably original. The car in bare metal is featured in the current issue of Magneto.

  • Egal - This racing E-Type was fitted in 1964 with a 7-litre Holman & Moody V8 from the Galaxie racing programme, and in 1967 raced by Barrie ‘Whizzo’ Williams.

  • XK-120 owned and rallied by cartoonist Giles.

  • Ferrari 250GT/L Lusso 5303 - owned by racing driver Jo Siffert until his untimely death in 1971, and then acquired by the Swiss sculptor Jean Tinguely.

  • BHL 105 - Lister-Jaguar ‘Knobbly’ which in 1958 raced Le Mans, Silverstone, Spa and Goodwood and is remarkably original.

Inside the workshops, the team were at work but also had time to chat and explain what they were doing. The main workshop was busy completing the re-assembly of a Jaguar D-Type so that it could be sent out to California for this year’s Pebble Beach Concours. In the Panel Shop another D-Type was coming together and John and Teo were there to explain how they repaired the old aluminium. In the Engine Shop Greg and Jörn had two of the three Jaguar XK four-cylinder prototype engines, one being rebuilt into a full running engine, and the other a display engine lent by The Hawthorn Museum as a reference. The third example is in the British Motor Museum.

Andy and John talk through the restoration of this D-Type for Pebble Beach.

Our latest restoration was on display for the first time. The rare Mark IV Drophead, one of perhaps forty that still exist today, has just been through our workshops and is now ready for concours and touring events.

"It was incredible to celebrate our anniversary with so many friends and clients. Thank you to everyone who made these past 25 years possible...we are really looking forward to the next chapter."

- Mark Hews

The event was made possible by our partners at Howden, Heritage Skills Academy and Sustain Fuels. Thank you!
